Oh dear.

Uhm, so I had no idea hair loss was a side effect of the Mirena IUD.

I didn't know until I read one of my favorite bloggers most recent posts.

And then I found this site.

Pardon my french but I am FREAKING THE FUCK OUT.

This HAS to be from the IUD. I am honestly pulling a golfball size clump of hair out of the drain every day. My hair is one of the few things I really REALLY like about myself and now it's going away.

Points to be made:
  • This thing was expensive to have placed and I've only had it for 2 months. Should I give it more time? Probably. That's more than likely what my midwife would say.
  • Let's say I get it pulled. Yaz/Yazmin is out - caused depression. NFP/Charting/condoms are a pain in the rear and SCARE THE BEJEEZUS out of me. What then? A different pill? I suppose.
Hokay, that's all for now. I just had to post this because omgwhatamIgoingtodo?!?!

  1. I almost got that thing and I'm just so glad I didn't! I've had so many friends have trouble with it, but I've never heard the hair loss thing! Birth control is such a pain in the butt.

I was on a low dose pill up until recently called Aviane and it wasn't too bad. Good luck!

  2. Get the Paragaurd IUD. It's the nonhormonal version of the IUD. I'm surprised your midwife didn't tell you about it. Google that shizz.

Paragaurd is what I have and I love it. I had it for three years before TTC our last babe and I just got of again since having my baby in Nov. I've never had side effects besides slightly heavier periods and it's my midwives and Dr.'s fave BC. My Dr. told me it's what she'll get when the time comes.

Hope you get it figured out! I'll be following your new/old blog. :-)

  3. Yikes. Don't forget Yaz also apparently causes gallbladder issues. (which, reading back, I guess you already have issues with? Curious - did those start before/after using Yaz? One of my bff's totally had to have emergency gallbladder surgery and it was traced back to Yaz.)

I actually use a generic pill from Target. It doesn't really screw with my hormones much and I assume it works (hard to say since I'm not really, um, USING it for its intended benefit, shall we say, right now) but it's always held up in the past. And it's like $9.
